What's your favorite, NATURAL, beauty secret? Mine is chamomile & lavender oil. I toasted chamomile in some oil (olive), and added lavender. And added more oil. I toasted the whole thing for probably 30 minutes on 200 degrees. I strained the herbs, and stored the oil in a pump container. I rub it through my hair, and let it sit for around half an hour. Then I wash it out really well. It makes it SOO shiny =]

I hope you all like this. -white eyeshadow around tear ducts -I never tug or rub my eyes hard, no premature wrinkles for me! -I always keep my skin moisturized for a natural all over glow. -I use St. Ives apricot scrub once a week to exfoliate my face. -Crest white strips for a whiter, healthier smile. -Glam eyes Lash flirt mascara, for really long flirty lashes -Victorias Secret Beauty Rush lipgloss keeps my lips plump -Big Sexy Hair root lifting hairspray is amazing! - run cold water over my nail varnished hands. - put Vaseline on my eyelashes, makes them longer ;) - drink lots of water, it helps to lose weight and keep healthy - use my hairdryer to blow dry my eyelashes upwards, to give them some curl and dry the mascara before applying more - try not to touch my face a lot through the day because the dirt from hands goes on my face and leads to clogged pores - Nair my upper lip to get rid of peach fuzz that can look funny - After rinsing the conditioner out of my hair I turn the water cold to lock in the moister and close the pores. - Shave with conditioner for even more moisturized legs - I put lotion on my face before I apply make-up -I put mascara on the bottom lashes to define my lashes -moisturize every day with a thick, creamy lotion -use a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil -use tinted moisturizer instead of foundation -add subtle highlights to make my hair look brighter -drink only unsweetened tea and water so it helps my skin -On my face I only use natural, talc and paraben free products. -Eye primer before you apply shadows (holds color better) -Keep eyebrows plucked and waxed -Olay touch of sun lotion adds a nice color to skin ** Thanks to everyone who contributed to this!

To get glowing, dewy skin, apply cool whip (yes, weird I know!) to your face. It evens out your skin tone, and the ingredients give it a dewy, natural sheen. If its too sticky, blast your face with a blowdryer on a cool setting for 10 seconds!

Mine are: put lotion on hands and feet, and wear gloves and socks over it to bed. wake up with super soft hands and feet! when applying blush put translusent powder over it. it looks more natural for a natural look, only apply mascara on the outer corners of your eyes splash face with cold water for 10 seconds. this will bring new blood up to your face. and then put a washcloth in hot water and put the cloth over your face for a few minutes. now your face is ready for maximum moisture brush your nails with toothpaste and an old toothbrush to make them look healthy and then dip them in lemon juice to make them look natural. that's all I have.. do you have any? :)

Simple/Easy Beauty&Style Tips!! I've decided to share my daily beauty secrets etc. To you guys... lol here they are Showers-1.I personally take a shower every single morning cuz I just love that fresh feeling which makes me feel beautiful&confident before going to school.. Only shower once a day, you don't want your skin&hair to dry out so pick either one in morning or at nite 2. DO NOT CONDITION.SHAMPOO.WASH HAIR EVERY DAY! Your hair will dry out and become more frizzy/less shiny/not good 3.I use heads and shoulders with a conditioner and shampoo in it. Every other day ill wash my hair. I wet, comb it in the shower, scrub shampoo/conditioner on my scalp and run my fingers through my actual hair gently[[causes less splitends and breakage I've found]] Then I clip my hair up while I wash my body with pink cream ribbons[[works wonderfully to keep soft&smooth, good smelling bodywash too]] after im done with that I rinse my hair with cold water to give shine. 4. Year round always keep legs, stomach, bikini line and underarms hair free. Using conditioner or mens razor tends to give a closer shave:]]] I suggest never shave pubic hair cuz when its growing bak its terribly irritating, trim it instead[[cleaner when you have period]] 5.Nails- keep them clean! This includes the cutitcles[[after showers push them back it helps your nails grow longer]]. Don't let them grow to long! Guys hate it if every time you touch them they gotta worry bout getting clawed lol. Try natural length square shape. Make sure there's no dirt under your nails. Nail polish-baby pink, barbie pink, reds, neons, rich gem colors, black... my favorite is french manicure which will go with every outfit! If your not going to wear polish make sure to use a nail brush with some soap to keep clean. Maybe even buy a nail buffer[[I use 'is it wet?'] nice quick on the go. 6.Skin- exfoliate! Once or twice a week use a home made or store brought exfoliator before going into shower. Twice a day wash your face. Never go to sleep wearing makeup you can wake up breaking out. If your really tired use a a baby wipe/moist towel to take off makeup. I count my shower as washing my face in the morning but at night I wash my face with a face cleanser. I use neutrogena. It takes off makeup, dirt, oil and works well. My face is always super soft after that. Twice a week ,once a day I use the neutrogena wave[[I got a pink one! Lol and my bff uses it too]] on my face&chest. This counts as a exfoliater btw cept only for face. I suggest pick one day a week where you exfoliate! Mosturizing is so important. Every day after a shower use a mosturizer[[the ones based on oatmeal im in love wit]] 7. Hairstyles- messy bun, high pony, side pony, side braid, wavy, curly, straight, pouf, bangs... search online or youtube to find out how to do these. A tip, at night wet your hair then take some leave in conditioner[[garnier fructis is nice but I usually use infusium]] to make hair damp. Now take your hair and make 2 french braids. In the morning take them out. Beautiful natural waves. A even easier way though is seperate hair into 2 sections[[hair still got to be damp]] and twist into two buns. In morning take out. Again beautiful waves. Shake them out a lil. Experiment, tighter braids, smaller braids, looser braids, big braids... find what you like that gives you the waves or curls your looking for...[[if that makes sense haha]] 8.Extras-Thongs! Love them. I always wear tight bootcut jeans or skinny jeans. I don't want panty lines so I wear some cute thongs! And no I'm not trying to be sexy for my beautiful bf<33...[[im 13, 8th grade btw]] Vaseline, vaseline vaseline. For soft lips take some vaseline put on lips and take tooth brush scrubbing them gently. Eye cream- take tiny bit of vaseline, not too much though or your eye lids will look greasy and oily... dab and rub on eyes. Please no excess vaseline though. Gives a subtle shine if done right and looks awesome! lashes- at night put vaseline on lashes,eventually they'll grow in thicker, fuller and longer. Or take some vaseline on lashes then put some mascara over it! Beautiful! To get the best hair day possible rock your natural hair! That means no heat! Eyebrows-please don't wax, ppl say that its the best thing to do but ur face is ultra sensitive... instead tweeze[[get cute polka dot or zebra tweezermans:]] tips:tweeze after showers, pull hair out the way it grows in, and apply soothing cream after to clear redness and irritation... beware of sharpie and thick eyebrows! Natural makeup- I suggest going very natural its beautiful, my usual is clear/coral lip gloss, 1 coat of volumizing mascara and undereye concealer... drink tons of water! Think bout it if all you drink is water[[like me I only drink water&milk, no soda or juice 4 me]]=no sugars... it gives a nice glow too to your skin and cleans out ur body. Mouth- brush 3 times a day [[morning,afterschool and night]] use mouthwash each time and floss once a day! Pearly whites are in. A must is 5 gum. Everyone does something that not alot of people know about, and it helps them with their skin or hair etc. (for instance, sometimes instead of using a regular moisturizer, I put honey on my face. I leave it for a minute or two. The honey gives an even amount of natural moisture to the face without over or under moisturizing.) I told you mine, what's yours? (I wanna hear some good remedies for hair and skin mostly)
What's your beauty secret? What's your favorite beauty secret that you feel blessed to know? I have three: Mosquito single me out all the time, and if I go outdoors for two minutes in this humid Georgian madness, I get attacked by them! They can be so ugly. But if you rub a banana peel on it for about an hour, it's gone! It stops itching after about ten minutes. Works wonders. And then there's my sugar secret. People always ask me why my skin it so soft. I use sugar to exfoliate in the shower once every few days. It works so well the very first time you try it! And my last one is eggs. I go through eggs so quickly even though I'm not much of a cook, because I don't use them to eat, I use them in my hair! Egg yolks are a natural moisturizer, so I take two egg yolks and lather them through my hair. I leave a cap on in the shower, and my hair is thicker when I get out! It plumps up the hair by feeding it moisture! Very, very helpful for someone who lusts after thick hair like me. :) I also use eggs for my face. I separate the egg whites and yolks into two separate bowls. I then rub the whites all over a cleansed face and let it dry. The yolks can either be used for the before mentioned hair treatment, eaten, or they can be used as a follow up to moisturize dry skin. (Just apply the same way you did with the egg whites and rinse.) Follow with ice to snap the pores shut! Works SO well! So what's yours? You burn brown sugar? I think I'll try brown sugar, but I don't get the burning part.

My veins are a bit noticeable in the winter when I fade but I have a dark area in the corner of my eye. So if you have any make-up tricks or beauty secrets or anything that would be AWESOME! Please keep the look light and fresh above all. :) Masks, nails, face, creams, lotions, gels, brushes anything really. I hate it when all the girls in my school who are blonde or switch from blonde or dark back each month with cheap products it ruins the hair no to mention if you do it your it is about 150 bucks a year!!! They use thicker black eyeliner, and black mascara, and use bronzer on their face that is 3 shades way too dark and leave out the neck. Sorry it bugs me! They have white, white necks and over the top fake bronzed tans. It looks funny! haha.

Simple/Easy Beauty&Style Tips!! I've decided to share my daily beauty secrets etc. To you guys... lol here they are... btw I know i posted it before but was in wrong section and these tips are really easy and work for me really well! Showers-1.I personally take a shower every single morning cuz I just love that fresh feeling which makes me feel beautiful&confident before going to school.. Only shower once a day, you don't want your skin&hair to dry out so pick either one in morning or at nite 2. DO NOT CONDITION.SHAMPOO.WASH HAIR EVERY DAY! Your hair will dry out and become more frizzy/less shiny/not good 3.I use heads and shoulders with a conditioner and shampoo in it. Every other day ill wash my hair. I wet, comb it in the shower, scrub shampoo/conditioner on my scalp and run my fingers through my actual hair gently[[causes less splitends and breakage I've found]] Then I clip my hair up while I wash my body with pink cream ribbons[[works wonderfully to keep soft&smooth, good smelling bodywash too]] after im done with that I rinse my hair with cold water to give shine. 4. Year round always keep legs, stomach, bikini line and underarms hair free. Using conditioner or mens razor tends to give a closer shave:]]] I suggest never shave pubic hair cuz when its growing bak its terribly irritating, trim it instead[[cleaner when you have period]] 5.Nails- keep them clean! This includes the cutitcles[[after showers push them back it helps your nails grow longer]]. Don't let them grow to long! Guys hate it if every time you touch them they gotta worry bout getting clawed lol. Try natural length square shape. Make sure there's no dirt under your nails. Nail polish-baby pink, barbie pink, reds, neons, rich gem colors, black... my favorite is french manicure which will go with every outfit! If your not going to wear polish make sure to use a nail brush with some soap to keep clean. Maybe even buy a nail buffer[[I use 'is it wet?'] nice quick on the go. 6.Skin- exfoliate! Once or twice a week use a home made or store brought exfoliator before going into shower. Twice a day wash your face. Never go to sleep wearing makeup you can wake up breaking out. If your really tired use a a baby wipe/moist towel to take off makeup. I count my shower as washing my face in the morning but at night I wash my face with a face cleanser. I use neutrogena. It takes off makeup, dirt, oil and works well. My face is always super soft after that. Twice a week ,once a day I use the neutrogena wave[[I got a pink one! Lol and my bff uses it too]] on my face. This counts as a exfoliater btw cept only for face. I suggest pick one day a week where you exfoliate! Mosturizing is so important. Every day after a shower use a mosturizer[[the ones based on oatmeal im in love wit]] 7. Hairstyles- messy bun, high pony, side pony, side braid, wavy, curly, straight, pouf, bangs... search online or youtube to find out how to do these. A tip, at night wet your hair then take some leave in conditioner[[garnier fructis is nice but I usually use infusium]] to make hair damp. Now take your hair and make 2 french braids. In the morning take them out. Beautiful natural waves. A even easier way though is seperate hair into 2 sections[[hair still got to be damp]] and twist into two buns. In morning take out. Again beautiful waves. Shake them out a lil. Experiment, tighter braids, smaller braids, looser braids, big braids... find what you like that gives you the waves or curls your looking for...[[if that makes sense haha]] 8.Extras-Thongs! Love them. I always wear tight bootcut jeans, leggings or skinny jeans. Theyre what I feel comfortable in and know wont give panty lines. And no I'm not trying to be sexy for my bf<33...[[im 13, 8th grade btw]] Vaseline, vaseline vaseline. For soft lips take some vaseline put on lips and take tooth brush scrubbing them gently. Eye cream- take tiny bit of vaseline, not too much though or your eye lids will look greasy and oily... dab and rub on eyes. Please no excess vaseline though. Gives a subtle shine if done right and looks awesome! lashes- at night put vaseline on lashes,eventually they'll grow in thicker, fuller and longer. Or take some vaseline on lashes then put some mascara over it! Beautiful! To get the best hair day possible rock your natural hair! That means no heat! Eyebrows-please don't wax, ppl say that its the best thing to do but ur face is ultra sensitive... instead tweeze[[get cute polka dot or zebra tweezermans:]] tips:tweeze after showers, pull hair out the way it grows in, and apply soothing cream after to clear redness and irritation... beware of sharpie and thick eyebrows! Natural makeup- I suggest going very natural its beautiful, my usual is clear/coral lip gloss, 1 coat of volumizing mascara and undereye concealer... drink tons of water! Think bout it if all you drink is water[[like me I only drink water&milk, no soda or juice 4 me]]=no sugars... it gives a nice glow too to your skin and cleans out ur body. Mouth- brush 3 times a Your welcome! Haha they're really easy little things to improve yourselves[[even though Im pretty sure you guys probably don't need!]] lmao

What makeup do you wear daily? For my face; I always start with a lotion to make the foundation stay. I use Cover Girl True Blend in "2"(natural) pressed powder. Then Beauty Control Secret agent under cover makeup for dark circles. (with a brush) Eyes; Cover girl Lash Blast in "Very Black" Then I use a liquid eyeliner for my top, called Cover girl Line Exact in "600" Black. how to change my makeup technique? sooo, I wear Concealer on any blemishes, uneven spots, and around my nose and the corners of my mouth. I use a concealer crayon and use a large brush to blend it in. I then apply highliting powder to my eyebrows where there used to be hair before I plucked.(you know what I mean? the brow bone??) i blend that in. I use purple glitter Victorias secret beauty rush liquid eyeliner on my upper LASH LINE!! then, I lift up my upper eyelid and apply black eyeliner to the inner waterline.(souunds painful; but in reality, it actually kinda tickles!!) :) then I line my lower water line to the middle of the iris. I dont wanna look like I have no eyes!! (Ya, im asian, sooo?) then I curl my lashes BIG TIME!!! again, being asian, I need a little curl and lift...ya know? then I apply maybelline full and soft waterproof mascara.(2 coats.) then I apply NARS blush in orgasm. i know...funny name haha. its a feminine pink color that is very natural. then I just apply VS beauty rush lipgloss in strawberry fizz and Im done!!! do you think florida is hell? lived in central florida for 7 years of my life, luckly i made it out alive, but feel aslthough my time and sense of peace and loving life have been distorted and manipulated by the endless days and nights in honest anguish and despair. Never once in 7 horrible years did i have just one day of peace. The people are either old and dillusional, redneck,simple minded and ignorant, psychotic manic depressives, or/and fake or followers. Going to high school and community college i still never had one conversation that i felt enlightened or informed by something honest, meaningful, or true.There is absolutely nowhere to go unless you drive long distances and have a large bank account. There is no mom and pop stores or very few, every store or restaurant is a chain preety much. The landscape is downright flat and ugly. Never really got to see the ocean being in the middle of the state but wow is there nothing of natural beauty there. All the trees are small and forests are swamplike. You cant go swimming there because of alligators and bacteria. Its too hot and sticky out 10 out of 12 months out of there year. When ever i went out for a nature day which i do in new england i felt so uninspired and dissapointed. Everything is cookie cuter like the roads, subdivisions, and the shopping centers, so fake. no beautiful landscapes, no beautiful architechture, no independent people, no sense of community or current culture, just a feeling everyday that god made a land that is impossible to connect to and people that are fake, uninteresting, and hiding in secret lives in which they dream only in self gratification and lies. It has changed who I am, i can never be the same person, i will always hate florida, its the opposite of all i find beautiful, most of the women have ugly personalities, no sense of grace or care, have no interesting hobbies, or dumb and unattractive appearances. Does NOT wearing makeup make someone look older than they are? (details inside)? My wife (28) doesn't wear makeup, she calls it her "natural beauty". On her driver's license, she took the photo with "natural" beauty and when she was carded for alcohol while wearing makeup, the cashier said it was a fake id and that was a picture of her Grandma because the difference was too great. Studying horticulture? I posted in Botany and was advised given my interest that horticulture would be more suitable for me. Here is some of what I posted: I'm really starting to love plants and have such a great facination and admiration for them. What interests me is their productive role in our enviroment ( not interested in enviromental issues) such as providing us with food, medicines and their natural healing properties. I have read a little on ethnobotany and find it facinating but don't wish to specialize in it. Also their uses in the skin care/beauty/aromatherapy industry. The word "monster" causes one to imagine a hideous, deformed or nonhuman creature that appears in horror movies and novels and terrifies everyone in its path. More importantly, however, the creature described generally behaves monstrously, doing things which harm society and acting with little consideration for the feelings and safety of others. In Mary Shelley’s novel this is not the case, over time we see that the monster Although Victor Frankenstein calls his creature a monster, and considers it disgusting and abhorrent, it is in fact Frankenstein who behaves monstrously. He claims to have created the creature for a noble purpose: to defeat death. However, it is clear that his motives are largely selfish, as he states: "I was surprised that among so many men of genius who had directed their inquiries towards the same science, that I alone should be reserved to discover so astonishing a secret" (36). He creates a living being without considering the consequence, then when he is finished he discards his creation with no more care than a child would an old toy. Narcissism by definition is excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one’s physical appearance. Victor Frankenstein was so blind to the rest of the world that he can only be termed delusional in some ways. He cared only for his own wants and needs, and regarded the impact of things as they affected him rather than how the rest of the world could be affected. An action which exemplifies this selfish tendency was to ignore his friends and family while pursuing his scientific endeavors. "Winter, spring and summer passed...so deeply was I engrossed in my occupation." (156) By placing his own desires in front of continuing communication with the outside world he became deranged by his feverish thirst for the fame he envisioned at the completion of his creation. The completion of his work was so intensely compelling that the grotesque reality of his creation did not dawn on him until after the creature was alive. “ I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body. For this I deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart.” (156) Victor conceives of science as a mystery to be probed; its secrets, once discovered, must be jealously guarded. He considers M. Krempe, the natural philosopher he meets at Ingolstadt, a model scientist: “an uncouth man, but deeply imbued in the secrets of his science.”PAGE #? Victor’s entire obsession with creating life is shrouded in secrecy, and his obsession with destroying the monster remains equally secret until Walton hears his tale. Even after the death of his younger brother, the falsely accused Justine, Victor remained silent. Quote. He allowed people to die simply because he was unwilling to testify that he wasn’t crazy if people found out that he believed he had created a monster on a war path of revenge. Lastly, Victor’s blind hatred of his creature drives him endlessly on, his obsessive hatred drives him to his death. The creature in Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein wasn’t created a monster, he was neglected and subsequently learned how to act cruelly from humans. The real monsters in the novel are the people who constantly berated and mistreated one who looked different from them while a wolf in sheep’s clothing, Victor Frankenstein, lurked among the populace unscarred from the bitter lacerations of human society. This was so simply because his appearance was more pleasant to gaze upon, therefore he could not be considered a “monster” or “creature.” To be Human is to act humanely, which refers to having or acting with compassion or benevolence. The creature exhibited more of these traits than Victor and most of the people within the story. The creature was not born evil, but only wanted to be loved by its creator, by other humans, and to love a sentient creature like itself. It was mankind who taught it evil: Victor rejected it, and the creature's poor treatment by villagers taught it how to be evil. It is obvious that the real monster within this novel is Victor Frankenstein.

January/February/March, 2004 PHILOSOPHY Einstein's Religious Theses -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comparing the famous physicist's concepts of God and soul to Hindu beliefs By Mark Hawthorne, California Many people, mostly theologians, have accused Einstein of being an atheist; such a scientist, say his detractors, could hardly be religious. Einstein's view of religion did not include a personal God, which in the first half of the twentieth century was tantamount to saying he was atheistic. But no atheist spent so much time, and put so much thought, into celebrating God. And perhaps no physicist ever considered so deeply the link between science and religion. When asked how he accounted for being both a scientist and a man known for religious musings, Einstein replied: "Well, I do not think that it is necessarily the case that science and religion are natural opposites. In fact, I think that there is a very close connection between the two. Further, I think that science without religion is lame and, conversely, that religion without science is blind. Both are important and should work hand-in-hand. It seems to me that whoever doesn't wonder about the truth in religion and in science might as well be dead." Then there are the theological issues raised by Einstein's scientific discoveries. For example, Hindu philosophers have frequently suggested that Einstein's famed equation, E=mc2 (that mass and energy are different manifestations of the same thing), is remarkably parallel to certain concepts in Hindu philosophy. Other aspects of his work, such as the mutability of time, have intriguing parallels in the philosophies of India. At the request of Hinduism Today who gave me the assignment despite my lack of philosophical credentials I ventured into the fascinating world of Albert Einstein's religious beliefs and the theological consequences of his scientific discoveries. Born to Jewish parents in Germany in 1879, Albert Einstein's first education was at a strict Catholic school in Munich, where order and discipline were instilled in the students. The experience left him with a lifelong disdain of regimentation and a distrust of authority figures. Apparently to balance the Catholicism Albert was learning in primary school, his parents hired a distant relative to tutor him in the fundamentals of Judaism. These studies sparked a spiritual interest in young Albert, who began preparing for his bar mitzvah, the religious rite Jewish boys undergo when turning 13. He eagerly read the scriptures of his faith and even gave up eating pork. While other boys were dreaming of becoming soldiers and going to war, Einstein abhorred the thought of being in the military. "When I grow up, I don't want to be one of those poor people, " he told his parents. He would remain a devout pacifist throughout his life. He spent a lot of time deep in thought, and he credited his trait of profoundly wondering about things with helping him in his scientific endeavors. Einstein even believed his childlike curiosity, allowing him to think without boundaries, set the stage for his discovery of the relativity theory as an adult. Einstein maintained a deep interest in his Jewish studies until a family friend lent him several books on natural science. Suddenly, he viewed the world through an empirical lens. He wrote in his autobiography: "Through the reading of popular scientific books, I soon reached the conviction that a lot in the Bible stories could not be true. The result was downright fanatical freethinking, combined with the impression that young people were being lied to by the state: it was a shattering discovery." Einstein turned his back on organized religion and refused to take his bar mitzvah; he was, therefore, not a proper member of the Jewish community something that might have later become an issue had he taken up Israel's 1952 offer to be the country's second president. The young Einstein soon focused his attention on geometry, finding in Euclid's axiomatic-deductive method a clarity and certainty that he had not found in the Torah and Talmud of his Jewish instructions. From higher mathematics it was only a short and logical step to the world of philosophical thought. With an analytical mind and a passion for deep thinking, he was equal to the task of absorbing Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, a complex work addressing issues of human existence. The influence of Spinoza Einstein most admired the seventeenth-century Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza, whose writings he had discovered in his twenties. In Spinoza he found a kindred spirit. Both were solitary, pensive Jews who were eventually alienated by their religious heritage. Einstein was especially impressed by Spinoza's major work, Ethics, in which the philosopher uses Euclidean geometry to prove the validity of ethical ideas. Spinoza argued that "God, or substance, consisting of infinite attributes, of which each expresses eternal and infinite essentiality, necessarily exists." According to Spinoza, infinite substance is indivisible. "God is One, hence, in the nature of things, only one substance is given, " Spinoza wrote in Ethics. Philosophically, his position that whatever exists is a part of a single substance is called, in Western philosophy, "monism." A similar concept exists within many forms of Hindu philosophy. Spinoza believed in a form of pantheism, from the Greek pan and theos, meaning "everything is God." Adherence to monism specifically, his belief in pantheism has parallels with the tenets of several Hindu systems of thought, including Advaita Vedanta. The common scientific view is that there is nothing but the physical universe that we can see and measure with our instruments. What separates Spinoza, and later Einstein, from this is two-fold. One, that "what exists " likely extends far beyond our human ability to perceive and analyze it, and two, that "what exists " is divine, Godly and not inert matter. Some place Spinoza's philosophy under the heading of modified pantheism, in which God is believed to be the reality behind nature. In this way his philosophy differs from Sankara's Advaita Vedanta, in which Brahman alone is reality and all else is illusion. In his Dictionary of Philosophy and Religion, William Reese calls Advaita Vedanta "Acosmic Pantheism, " the belief that God is in and beyond the manifest world, which does not enjoy true existence. But Spinoza's view is similar to the view of Saiva Siddhanta and several others systems that the universe is the body and mind of God, while at the same time God transcends the universe. It's a difficult task to compare these Western and Eastern philosophies, not only because they use different terminology, but because the Western philosophies are generally reasoned out, while the Eastern philosophies rely more upon meditative experience and insight. One also has to keep in mind that from the 17th century onward, in Europe and America, Western religion was under full-scale attack from the emerging philosophy and discoveries of science. The relationship between science and religion in the West remains largely hostile. Not so in the East. Spinoza's views on religion therefore provided something of a way around the hostilities, and they validated ideas that were already germinating in Einstein's mind. "I am fascinated by Spinoza's pantheism, " he said, "but admire even more his contribution to modern thought, because he is the first philosopher to deal with the soul and body as one, and not two separate things." Einstein viewed the human being as a single unit, and scoffed at the idea of a soul which transcended death. "I am not an atheist." Einstein's ideas on spirituality enjoyed some influence due to his revolutionary work in physics. Some theologians felt threatened by his scientific theories, and Einstein was frequently asked to contribute articles about religion, perhaps in part to demonstrate he was not an atheist attempting to disprove the existence of God or to demonstrate he was, since both sides interpreted Einstein's ideas to suit their own agenda. These articles, interviews and essays are some of the best evidence we have of Einstein's philosophy. One, titled "Science and Religion, " presented at the 1940 Conference on Science, Philosophy and Religion in New York, became the center of controversy. "A person who is religiously enlightened, " he wrote, "appears to me to be one who has, to the best of his ability, liberated himself from the fetters of his selfish desires and is preoccupied with thoughts, feelings and aspirations to which he clings because of their superpersonal value." He then went on to define religion as "the age-old endeavor of mankind to become clearly and completely conscious of these values and goals and constantly to strengthen and extend their effect." Einstein concluded his paper with a statement about the conflict between science and religion, which he believed has its root in the concept of a personal God. Theologians attending the conference were in an uproar, misinterpreting Einstein's statement as a denial of God. He was asked straight out if he believed in God, and he replied: "I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with fates and actions of human beings." One faction took this to mean Einstein was a believer in God as they understood God. An opposing camp said Einstein's believing in Spinoza's nonpersonal God was the same as believing in no God at all. In an attempt to define why and in what way he was "religious, " Einstein said, "Try and penetrate with our limited means the secrets of nature and you will find that, behind all the discernible concatenations, there remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable. Veneration for this force beyond anything that we can comprehend is my religion. To that extent I am, in point of fact, religious." One person asked Einstein to define God. He replied in this fashion: "I'm not an atheist, and I don't think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books, but doesn't know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws, but only dimly understand these laws. Our limited mind grasps the mysterious force that moves the constellations." Einstein was blunt in his rejection of the central tenets of Western religion. "I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, " he said, "or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I, nor would I want to, conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egoism, cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and with the awareness and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in nature." An unusual aspect of Einstein's beliefs, again following Spinoza, was in "determinism, " the position that every event or occurrence is determined, that is, could not have happened other than it did. For Spinoza, the feeling of being free is simply the state of ignorance concerning the cause. Einstein's belief in determinism was in part behind his lack of acceptance of quantum mechanics, which held one could not deduce the future state of the universe from the present one. He famously said, "God does not play dice with the universe." However, despite his best efforts, he could not disprove quantum mechanics. The "cosmic religion " Einstein summarized his philosophy in what he termed the "cosmic religion, " which is characterized by a feeling of awe and an experience of the mysterious that he declared to be the source of his religiosity. In this experience, God does not punish or reward. Although his cosmic religion does not include a personal God (i.e., Ishvara), which he believed was devised due to fear of the unexplained, Einstein believed, "The religious geniuses of all ages have been distinguished by this kind of religious feeling, which knows no dogma and no God conceived in man's image; so that there can be no church whose central teachings are based on it." At this point, for Einstein, religion and science meet, for the cosmic religious experience "is the strongest and noblest driving force behind scientific research." In response to a question about whether or not modern science can offer spiritual insights where organized religion has failed, Einstein said, "Speaking of the spirit that informs modern scientific investigations, I am of the opinion that all the finer speculations in the realm of science spring from deep religious feeling, and that without such feeling they would not be fruitful. I also believe that this kind of religiousness, which makes itself felt today in scientific investigations is the only creative religious activity of our time." Einstein said that science cannot teach men the importance of ethics and morality, for the simple reason that science deals with what is, and ethics with what should be. Meeting Tagore Among the most famous Einstein dialogues took place in 1930, when Rabindranath Tagore visited him in Germany. Einstein reserved the highest admiration for Tagore, as well as Mahatma Gandhi, and they, in turn, regarded him with esteem. They were united in their concern for the poor and the state of the human condition. Tagore and Einstein shared a love of music and the belief that religion is not found in rituals and tradition. But the poet and the physicist disagreed on at least one point. When Einstein said he agreed with Tagore's concept that beauty is inseparable from man, but that he did not agree that the same held true for truth, Tagore asked, "Why not? Truth is realized through man." After a long pause, Einstein replied simply, "I cannot prove that my conception is right, but that is my religion." Tagore finally declared, "If there be some truth which has no sensuous or rational relation to the human mind, it will ever remain as nothing so long as we remain human beings." To this Einstein replied, "Then I am more religious than you are!" Relativity in the light of Vedanta In Einstein's theory of relativity, E=mc2, he postulates that mass is equivalent to energy. Both space and time, deduced Einstein, are no longer absolutes. Consider his theory in light of the Vedanta system of Hindu philosophy. All matter throughout the universe is the outcome of one primal matter called akasha. Moreover, all force, whether gravitational or electromagnetic, is the outcome of one cosmic energy called prana. Prana acting on akasha is creating or projecting the universe. Einstein had thus proven mathematically what Vedantists had known for years. Some theologians have taken the theory of relativity one step further, speculating that Einstein's mass-energy equivalence also accounts for energy and matter as true functions of each other. A God of pure energy could thus become an avatar a doctrine held by some Hindus, Tibetan Buddhists and Christians. Relativity may also be explored in terms of the system of 36 tattvas, or categories of existence, common to several systems of Hindu philosophy. These begin with shuddha maya, pure spiritual energy, the first evolutes, emanations or creations out of God. The first five tattvas are forms of consciousness, while the next seven are forms of spiritual-magnetic energy, including time (number 7, kala tattva). The final 24 consist of magnetic-gross energy, and include the mental faculties, organs of perception and action and finally the elements ether, air, fire, water and earth. The system of tattvas also regards matter as a form of energy. The major difference is that Einstein did not appear to speak in terms of consciousness as Hindus do, and his religious concepts seemed for the most part to deal with physical reality and not these higher realms of knowing or the subtle worlds spoken of in the Vedas. The search for a unified field theory In 1933, Einstein renounced his German citizenship and accepted a position in the United States at the new Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He spent the rest of his life as an American citizen in Princeton with his wife, Elsa. They lived in a simple house, and most mornings he walked a mile or so to the Institute to work on his unified field theory. He was attempting to link all known phenomena to explain the nature and behavior of all matter and energy in existence, work that caused some excitement among nonscientists then and now. Paramahansa Yogananada praised the physicist in his 1946 autobiography. "Reducing the cosmical structure to variations on a single law, " Yogananada wrote, "Einstein has reached across the ages to the rishis who proclaimed a sole fabric of creation: a protean maya." More recently, Eknath Easwaran wrote in his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita that Einstein's quest is a theme found in Hinduism: "One of the most fervent hopes of Einstein was to find an overriding law of nature in which all laws of matter and energy would be unified. This is the driving question in some of the ancient Hindu scriptures, too. Mundaka Upanishad 1.1.3 asks, 'What is That by knowing which all other things may be known?' " Einstein's search for proof of a unified field eluded him his entire life, although his perception of existence seemed as clear to him as it was to the rishis. He wrote, "A human being is a part of the whole, called by us 'Universe,' a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security." You think self hatred is cofined to any single race? Well think again. SLAYING THE THREE DRAGONS BACK TO HOME Fear, self-hatred and loneliness are fuelled by our mind and cause most of our miseries. The same mind, when made aware, can cure all these maladies, leading to self-mastery. An extract from Phil Nuernberger's book The Quest for Personal Power (Full Circle) There are three destructive conditions of the mind: fear, self-hatred and loneliness. They are like fire-breathing dragons that usurp the creative force of the mind and corrupt our resources, creating disease, unhappiness, and suffering. They seem to be so powerful that we feel helpless before them. We don't realize that we ourselves are the source of their power, and that we can take it away from them. Fear: a lack of self-mastery The most dramatic consequence of self-mastery is the ability to live without fear. Fear, the most destructive of the three dragons, is the cause of much of our suffering and stress. While we may be familiar with fear, we often don't realize just how pervasive this monster is. Much of our anger and resentments are rooted in fear. Greed most often begins with the fear of not having enough or of not being important. Then when we accumulate wealth, we become obsessed with protecting what we have. Fear drives us to acquire political and military power, feeling that if we can dominate, we will be secure. But this kind of power can become perverse and feed our insecurities. The more powerful we become, the more we worry about someone else becoming powerful. The Cold War between America and the Soviet Union was a classic example of how fear drives entire cultures: so much power and intellect dedicated to servicing both individual and national egos leading only to an unending sense of insecurity, of not having enough, of not being 'the best'. There are many faces of fear but the most terrible is violence. Whether it is the homelessness and street violence in American cities, the horrors of conflict in Bosnia and Rwanda, sectarian violence in India or Ireland, or political murders in Haiti, all have their roots in fear. Terrorists operate in a culture of fear, intentionally using it to gain power and control. Many of our fears are less dramatic, but not the less destructive. Some people spend their entire lives fearful that they will not meet someone else's standards. Even gossip has its roots in fear. If we can make others look small, and by so doing make ourselves look better, we compensate for the fear of being unimportant. Religions, government, and communities use fear to control others, and parents use fear to control their children. We usually don't like to think of ourselves as being fearful. We use softer words, such as 'worried' and 'anxious', which seem a little more acceptable. But worry is a form of fear, and being anxious is how we feel when we succumb to fear. Since we do it often, we get pretty good at it. Most of us become so skilled at worrying that it becomes part of our lives. And yet the only thing we accomplish by worrying is misery for ourselves and others. What would life be like for you if you lost all your fear? What if you didn't worry about what might happen to this or that, or you weren't afraid of what others might think of you, or you didn't have to worry about losing your job or paying your bills? Most of us think that if we were only richer, prettier, stronger, better-looking, more charming, safer, taller, slimmer-or if we had a better job, newer car, bigger house, more friends, better-looking lovers, more respect (the adjectives are almost endless)-then we wouldn't worry, and we would be happy. Worry and fear aren't created by a lack of things, they are created by how we think. If you have the habit of worrying, it doesn't matter who you are, what you have, or what you do, you will worry because that is the habit of your mind. This useless habit is one of the biggest causes of disease and unhappiness. And yet it has become so much a part of our lives that we even think that a little fear is helpful, and that fear is a natural part of being human. There are people who live life without being afraid. They realize that fear is not a natural part of their being, but rather a product of the mind, a fantasy that grips and destroys, but a fantasy nonetheless. Through knowledge and practice, they conquer the mind's habit of creating fear. This is one of the first goals of Tantra Yoga, as well as the martial arts. Tantra Yoga masters are called 'Masters' because they have mastered their own minds and have conquered their fear. The same is true of the samurai, the great sword and martial arts masters of Japan, or the great Taoist Masters of China. You can do the same. You can live life without the petty fears and worries that dog us from day to day, and without the great fears that every so often rattle our cages. Even the most desperate of situations can be faced without fear. As a young man, my Master often walked through the mountains of northern India. The mountains were, and still are, rugged, forested, and untamed. Once, while crossing a very narrow footbridge across a deep ravine, a tiger started crossing the same bridge from the other side. The bridge was so small that only one creature could pass at a time. My Master knew that if he retreated, the tiger would attack. Instead, he raised his arms and rushed toward the tiger, giving a powerful shout. The tiger immediately backed off the bridge, turned tail and ran. Through self-mastery, you mobilize your powerful innate drive for self-preservation and create both the energy and the focus to find a solution to any problem. But once you allow fear to paralyze the mind, you lose your ability to make choices and become locked into reaction. The greater our self-mastery, the greater our ability to face any situation without fear and to live our lives without worry. Self-hatred: the other side of misery At times it seems that we are masters of creating misery. When we aren't worrying about whether or not something awful is going to happen to us, we remember all the hurts, mistakes, and failures in our past. In other words, when we aren't preoccupied with someone or something attacking us, we turn around and attack ourselves. We seldom live up to expectations, we are never quite good enough no matter how good we get, and we keep making the same old mistakes. We suffer from guilt, continually find fault with ourselves, condemn ourselves for not living up to our own or someone else's expectations. These are all part of the dragon of self-hatred. After so many failures, mistakes, and broken dreams we begin to give up on ourselves and on life. Some of us become depressed, withdrawn, and passive, accepting whatever life gives as a cruel joke that we must endure. Others, angry with themselves, become angry at the world. They become cranky and hostile, taking out their own misery on others. Like fear, self-hatred is a habit of the mind, an arbitrary way of looking at life and at oneself that leads only to further mistakes, poor performance, and unhappiness. When someone else attacks you, at least you have the opportunity to conquer your adversary by mobilizing the body's defenses. But when you attack yourself, there is no outcome but defeat. You cannot win in a battle against yourself; you only create conflict and suffering. Instead of mobilizing your body's systems to defend yourself, you become depressed, passive and withdrawn. Attacking ourselves is only a habit of the mind, a consequence of the way we learned to see ourselves as we grew up. We can always find many reasons to punish ourselves for the mistakes we make and the expectations we fail to realize. Like fear, the dragon of self-hatred feeds on our lack of self-awareness and skill. We strengthen the dragon by constantly reminding ourselves of our weaknesses and mistakes. But as long as we continue to feed this dragon of self-hatred by paying attention to it, it continues to breathe fire and create misery for us. The secret is to stop feeding the dragon by experiencing your own inner strength and beauty. You can't create self-esteem by constantly telling yourself that you are a wonderful person. Self-esteem and self-respect grow out of the experience of committed effort. Whether or not you succeed is not as important to your self-respect as when you know that you tried your best. And if you continue to make the effort, if you continue to work with your resources, you will eventually succeed. Self-mastery arises out of effort, the underpinning of success. The tantrics have long known that depression and apathy damage the immune system and lead to serious disease. They also know that when you give up on yourself and become a victim, you deny yourself the power to grow and change. You stay stuck in your own ignorance. That's why the tantrics believe that the only true sin is sloth, the unwillingness to make an effort. Mistakes are seen as a necessary part of learning, not reasons for punishment. But without effort, personal power remains undeveloped and unused, and the outcome is self-hatred. Loneliness: in ignorance of spirit The third dragon is loneliness, the most subtle of all the dragons. It is the most difficult to defeat in part because it hides in our misunderstanding of its nature. Most of us think of loneliness as being apart from loved ones, having no one with whom to share our feelings, hopes, and dreams, our fears and concerns, and our experiences. The more unable we are to communicate our inner thoughts and feelings, the lonelier we feel. To solve this problem, we gather loved ones, build friendships, even join clubs and organizations. We think that if we have friends and family, people around us who love and care for us, we will never be lonely. But it doesn't work. As rewarding as family and friends are, they do not keep us from being lonely, they only distract us from our loneliness. In fact, the more we depend on our loved ones to keep us from being lonely, the lonelier we become. Think about it for a moment. Are you ever lonely for your enemies? Do you miss having unpleasant people around you? No, we are lonely for our friends and family, for those people to whom we feel close. It is the absence of our loved ones that makes us lonely. We think that loneliness involves our relationship with others, but it really involves our relationship with ourselves. It arises out of our sense of individuality. Our life experiences seem to confirm that we are truly alone. We are born into this world alone, we die alone. No one feels our pain or our joy, nor do they digest our food, breathe for us, or feel what we feel. Even though we may communicate and share these experiences, it is still 'me', the ego-sense of individuality that tells me I am alone. We don't experience any 'self' that is connected to, or a part of, any other self. As a consequence, we fail to understand the fundamental connection we have with each other and with the universe at large. Yet there are times when we experience a sense of wholeness, of completeness, of kinship with the universe at large. It may happen when we look up at the starry heavens, or watch the birth of a child, or participate with others in working through a crisis situation. It doesn't happen because we have expectations or make demands, we simply experience a strong sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. At this moment, we lose our ego-sense of self, and experience being part of a greater identity, a greater 'Self', and all loneliness vanishes. Unfortunately, these experiences are fleeting, easily lost in the shuffle of our day-to-day distractions, pressures, and reactions. When we are genuinely loving, we also break free from our ego-sense of self but we confuse 'loving' with 'being loved'. Most of us engage in a desperate search for someone to love us, but we confuse the issue by saying that we need someone to love. We say we want someone to share with, someone we can love, but what we are really saying is that we need someone to love us, someone who will make us feel important and keep us from feeling lonely. This is not love, but emotional attachment, which leads us into dependency. We believe that we need this person to be happy, to be content, to be fulfilled. So our loving becomes distorted by our emotional needs. When they don't love us back, we feel miserable and unloved. When they aren't around, we feel lonely. We all have a remarkable, unlimited capacity to love one another. There is a wide range of expression of our love, from brotherly and sisterly love to romantic, sexual love. But as long as we continue to confuse love and emotional attachment, we will continue to be lonely, even when we have someone to love. We can conquer this dragon of loneliness, but we must turn to our deepest resource to do so, our core spiritual Self. The great spiritual sages of all traditions say that our loneliness lies in the ignorance of our spirit, the core of our being. When we become aware of this Self, we experience the mystery of life, the unbroken and unending connection we have with each other and with the universe. We become fully conscious of the universal Spirit that flows within and through us. Picture life like a large oak tree filled with leaves, twigs, and branches. Our ego-sense of self makes us feel like we are a leaf of this tree. When the winds blow, the leaves rub against each other. Sometimes this is a pleasant experience and sometimes it is very unpleasant. As leaves, we feel isolated and apart from one another, even though we can see that we all belong to the same tree. When we become conscious of our spiritual Self, we realize that we are far more than just the expression of a single leaf. We are more than even the branch and the trunk. We are the life force within the tree. We cannot realize the power of this experience by analyzing it. Intellectual understanding is not the experience of wholeness, nor does it put an end to loneliness. Those experiences of wholeness gained by watching a birth or gazing at the stars are not intellectual, logical events. We must go beyond the intellect and become conscious of the human spirit directly. This is the heart of the meditative traditions of self-mastery-to calm the mind so completely, to be so focused, that we experience this spiritual Self directly. In Tantra, this experience is called samadhi, while in western meditative/spiritual traditions it is referred to as a 'mystical experience' because it takes us beyond our thoughts and emotions, beyond even our beliefs. The mystical experience is powerful and undeniable. In just one experience, our loneliness, our fear, and our self-hatred are diminished by half. As we become more skilled in our ability to have this awareness, we gradually lose all sense of loneliness, all fears are vanquished, and all self-hatred is eliminated. Our ego-sense of individuality now becomes an instrument by which we express in our unique way our thoughts, our love, our joy, and our strength. We do not lose our identity, we polish and refine our identity until our spiritual Self shines through like a bright light, and we experience the real joy and freedom that are our true heritage. Studying Botany? I'm really starting to love plants and have such a great facination and admiration for them. What interests me is their productive role in our enviroment ( not interested in enviromental issues) such as providing us with food, medicines and their natural healing properties. I have read a little on ethnobotany and find it facinating but don't wish to specialize in it. Also their uses in the skin care/beauty/aromatherapy industry. I also would be interested in learning anything about their aesthetic beauty ie why they are different colours, why they produce fragances. Their secret little world like their senstivity to stimuli and of course the usual stuff like breading and gentetics. Would any of these topics be covered in a botany degree? What actually is covered? Given my above interests, would botany be a ideal path for me? A friend suggested I study horticulture but I have no interest in planting and landscaping.

What is your EVERLASTING Childhood Fantasy... even as an ADULT, you still HOLD it...? My dream is to live in my own Palace of Ice, and I myself as the Snow Queen! Not an evil Queen of course... well, perhaps cunning enough to set winter all the time. And plus, cold temperature all over my palace could somehow preserve my natural beauty, an eternal youth! LoL!! I prefer cold climate to warm one, and I enjoy winter than summer all the time ^_^ . I really wish I could control the Cold Weather and Blizzard. My element is definitely Water and if somehow I have the power of Ice Storm and Sub-Zero temperature.... Well. my Palace of Ice and my figure as Snow Queen would be such legendary. My Palace is magically hidden and only those with pure heart and noble intention could ever discover it. I'm a tall, slim, blue-eyed, and silvery blond as the Snow Queen. Lots of men are dying to witness in first hand my pale and fragile image or even be my lover, while uncounts women are desperate for my secret of eternal beauty.... =) Oh, and I keep Frost Dragon as my Guardian Protector and pet! My Frost Dragon is covered entirely by Ice Crystal and her breath is not bursting flaming hot air. No, in fact, she bursts freezing cold air as her ultimate weapon. Anyone dare to stand against her breath would definitely freeze to death! How about you then? What is your childhood fantasy that you still believe in your adulthood?
