Why are STEARYL ALCOHOL, BENZYL ALCOHOL, and EDTA put in beauty products?

Why are these put into hair conditioner: ♥ stearyl alcohol ♥ benzyl alcohol ♥ edta why do they have to be included in the ingredients? like for example, cetyl alcohol is used in beauty products because it is used as a surfacant. can anyone help me with these? please, school assignemtn due 2moz? best answer 10 points! :) thankyou!
